Scope and limits

What Elementarium models, solves and checks today, and what it does not — on one page, before you commit a job to it.

Getting started 2 min read

This page lists what is in the current release and what is not, so you can tell in five minutes whether a job fits. Each line links to the page that explains it. When something here changes, the release notes say so.

Model

InNot in this release
Bars, 2 nodes, axial onlyCables, and tension-only or compression-only members
Beams, 2 nodes, 6 DoF per node, shear deformation through the shear areasWarping torsion (no seventh DoF); tapered members need subdividing
Four-node shells for slabs, walls, cores and curved surfaces, all-quad meshTriangles and solid elements
Springs, releases, partial rotational fixity, rigid arms, eccentric beamsCompression-only or tension-only supports, gaps and contact
Line supports on a Winkler bed along a member or a slab edgeA bed under the face of a raft
2D Frame, 2D Truss, 3D and general model types
IFC, SAF and DXF import

Analysis

InNot in this release
Linear static, every case and combinationMaterial nonlinearity: yielding, cracking, creep
Modal, with participating mass and a Sturm checkResponse spectrum and time-history analysis
Linear buckling, per load stateLateral-torsional buckling in the analysis: a beam has no warping DoF, so LTB is left to the design check
Second-order, P-Δ and P-δ with EN 1993-1-1 §5.3 imperfectionsLarge-displacement analysis

Loads and combinations

InNot in this release
EN 1990 STR/GEO and SLS combinations, 6.10 or 6.10a/b, favourable permanent variantsThe EQU set, accidental 6.11 and EN 1998 seismic combinations — write those by hand
ASCE 7-22 LRFD and ASD, seismic with a single , and service combinations
Wind and snow generated to EN 1991-1-4 and EN 1991-1-3ASCE 7 wind and snow generators
Temperature, prescribed displacements, load panels, masses

Design checks

InNot in this release
Steel to EN 1993-1-1 §6.2 and §6.3, Class 4 and web shear buckling to EN 1993-1-5Annex A interaction factors; load height in ; mono-symmetric torsional buckling; reduction for thickness (enter it in the material)
Steel to AISC 360 Chapters D to H, LRFD or ASDE5 single angles, E6 built-up members, F9/F10 tees and angles
Serviceability: member deflection, drift, floor-frequency screenSlab deflection checks (read the contour), floor acceleration, crack widths
Concrete, timber strength, masonry and aluminium design
Connections, base plates, foundations, fatigue, fire, cold-formed sections to EN 1993-1-3
Section cuts and design strips through slabs

Size

The free plan solves up to 500 degrees of freedom, a student account 5,000, and Pro has no cap; see Plans & limits. Past the plan, the ceiling is the memory the browser can give the solver, which depends on the device; see System requirements. For scale: the 18,654-DoF road overpass example solves in about 2 s on a 16-thread desktop.
