Comments
Threads pinned to nodes, members, plates or points, @mentions, blocking comments that hold up a report, and the notifications they send.
Collaboration & sync 3 min read
A review comment is only useful if it points at the thing it is about. In Elementarium a comment is pinned to the model itself: to a node, a member, a spot along a member or on a plate, a point in space, or the project as a whole. Everyone on the project sees the pin where it was left, and the thread follows the model through renames, divides and merges.
Leaving a comment
- Collaborate › Comments › Comment (Ctrl Alt M), then click a node or member.
- Add comment… from the right-click menu in a viewer.
- Comment on this in the properties panel of whatever is selected.
- New comment in the comments panel, which comments on the selection, or on the project when nothing is selected.
Type @ to mention someone on the project, or a model entity: a node, member, load, line support, load case, combination, load group, group, section, material or query point. A mention of an entity survives the entity being renamed.
The comments panel
Collaborate › Comments › All comments, or Comments in the header, opens every thread, filtered by Open, Resolved or All. N and P step to the next and previous open thread and show it in the viewer. The data tables mark rows with open threads on their id, and the viewer's Comments layer shows or hides the pins.
| On a thread | What it does |
|---|---|
| Resolve / Reopen | Closes the point, recording who resolved it and when |
| Mark as blocking | The report export warns while this thread is open |
| Agree | Records that you agree, without another reply |
| Edit, Delete | Authors edit their own messages; the author or the owner deletes |
If the thing a comment is about is deleted, the thread stays where it was and says what it was attached to, rather than disappearing with it.
Notifications
People are notified when they are mentioned, and when someone replies in a thread they have written in, as long as they still have access to the project. Nobody is notified of their own messages.
- In the app: the bell in the header and on the dashboard, when signed in.
- By email: a digest of mentions and replies still unread in the app, at most every ten minutes, after a notification has waited five minutes. Anything older than two days is not mailed.
Both are switched on by default, and either can be turned off under Account › Notifications.
Who can comment
Anyone with read & write access, which is the owner and editors, can comment, reply, resolve and agree. People with read access see the threads and cannot write in them. Comments are read-only in examples and while previewing an earlier version.
Comments are not tied to a plan, but a conversation needs more than one person on the project, and inviting collaborators is a Pro feature.
Comments live in the project, outside the model's undo history. A restore of an earlier version leaves them as they are, and they are not written into IFC or SAF exports, which carry the model only.
